‡ Gingrich, who used to represent Georgia in Congress, may be channeling President Andrew Jackson, who, after a Supreme Court led by Chief Justice John Marshall ruled that Jackson did not have the power to eject Cherokee Indians from their lands in Georgia, declared, “Mr. Marshall has his opinion.  Now let him enforce it,” and took the lands anyway, ejecting the Cherokees onto the “Trail of Tears.”
